Free Recreation Program for Kids

Beat the Streets, a free weekday program of games and events for young people, is being offered through the summer by the city’s Recreation & Community Services Department.
“Beat the Streets is designed to offer kids of all ages a friendly environment to burn off some extra energy as well as to have fun and meet new people,” said Don Fromknecht, community services supervisor.
Fromknecht said the program is strictly for recreation and is not a day-care service. Children may drop in for part of a day’s activities and are not required to stay the entire time, he said.
The sessions are Mondays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Participants may attend either or both sessions.
Parents may register their children at the recreation & community services office, 7821 Walker St., from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
