Chas Chandler; Bass Player for Animals Rock Group

Chas Chandler, 57, bass player for the Animals rock band who rose to fame in 1964 with “The House of the Rising Sun.” Chandler was playing in the Alan Price Trio in 1962 when vocalist Eric Burdon joined the group. They changed the name to the Animals, recorded “Rising Sun” and for the next three years toured nonstop, giving 300 shows a year. After band members went their separate ways in 1966, Chandler became a manager and record producer for other rock stars, including Jimi Hendrix. He also helped develop Newcastle Arena, a 10,500-seat sports and entertainment complex. On Wednesday in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England, of an aortic aneurysm.
