Rider Sacrifices for Injured Horse

A three-day event member of the U.S. equestrian team withdrew from the Olympics on Wednesday because she didn’t want to put her injured horse through pain.

Dorothy Trapp of Lexington, Ky., said her 13-year-old gelding, Molokai, was “sound and ready to compete,” but would experience pain from nagging bruises on the front heels. Trapp’s place in the was taken by Mara DePuy of South Stafford, Vt.
