An Honor in Miniature

Orange County already has a technology corridor that many consider a small version of Silicon Valley. But now the county might get a miniature replica of the real thing as part of a planned addition to Disneyland unveiled by Walt Disney Co. last week.

In a section of the park that is conceived as a showcase of the state’s natural wonders and cultural heritage, Disney’s “Imagineers” are planning to construct a Silicon Valley exhibit.

Barry Braverman, the creative force behind the new park, said the company is toying with the idea of putting hands-on exhibits inside replicas of the suburban Silicon Valley birthplaces of Apple Computer and other technology giants.

“It might be fun to create a series of garages--David Packard’s garage, Steve Jobs’ garage,” Braverman said. “It’s still evolving, but maybe you will go into these garages and see where things started and strap on virtual reality headgear and go on a journey into a microchip.”

Disney might even turn to some of these technology companies for help piecing together the exhibits, Braverman said.
