Island Ranching on Display at Museum

Share

A new exhibit that traces the history of ranching on Santa Rosa Island, one of the eight Channel Islands, has opened at the Ventura County Maritime Museum.

“Isla de los Vaqueros: The Ranching History of Santa Rosa Island 1843-Present” chronicles ranching life on the island 30 miles off the Santa Barbara County coast.

The pictorial display by the Santa Rosa chapter of the Santa Cruz Island Foundation follows ranching history from a Mexican land grant awarded in 1843 to the National Park Service’s acquisition of the island in 1986.
