NATO Halts Exercise After Bomb Error

NATO has suspended its ground-attack training exercises in Bosnia-Herzegovina while it investigates the accidental release of a bomb by a U.S. jet. The 500-pound bomb fell from an F/A-18 Hornet on Saturday, narrowly missing a U.S. Army base near the northern Bosnian town of Brcko. There were no injuries, but the explosion caused panic in the camp. The jet was taking part in a simulated attack on a target close to the base. The bomb landed 200 yards from its target, slamming into a dirt embankment that is part of the camp’s defenses, said a spokesman for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
