Flyweight Eric Morel became the first U.S. boxer to lose--to Cuban Maiko Romero--and also the first to embrace the great Olympic tradition of cashing in as quickly as possible.

In boxing, as a quick walk through the corridors of Alexander Memorial Coliseum during an afternoon session will show, there is never a shortage of people seeking to promote or manage Olympians.

“I’ve been approached by a lot of different people, and I’ve told them to wait until after the Olympics,” said Morel, who has been linked with the Duva promotional operation.

“Now that my Olympics are over, we’re going to sit down and see what kind of money they put on the table, and we’re going to go the person who offers the most.

“That’s what you have to do in boxing.”
