The man who painted a portrait of the America’s Cup sailboat and crew when they regained the trophy from Australia in 1987 will display his sketches and paintings at the Ventura County Maritime Museum.
Scott Kennedy, who traveled and painted on location at three America’s Cup races, will show his collection of work--ranging from old wooden ships to the most modern race boats--beginning Aug. 9.
“We are very excited,” said Christine Parker, the show’s curator.
“Because he sails, he is able to convey his love of boats like no other artist,” she said.
Although Kennedy is based in Oregon, he frequently travels to worldwide boat races, harbors and coasts to authentically capture the look of the ships and their surroundings, Parker said.
The exhibit, scheduled through Oct. 8, will open with a slide show presentation by Kennedy.
