Seminar Scheduled on New Export Rules
The exporting end of foreign trade is a big business in Orange County.
UC Irvine’s Graduate School of Management figures that at least 25% of the companies in the county sell products or services overseas, and economists at Chapman University say exporting brought $8 billion into the local economy last year and accounted for more than 150,000 jobs.
To make things easier for businesses in this age of high technology, the federal Bureau of Export Administration has revised the complex rules for obtaining export permits.
On Aug. 6, specialists from the bureau, part of the Commerce Department, will conduct a daylong seminar to walk exporters and prospective exporters through the new regulations.
