Safety Components Posts Lower Income

COSTA MESA — Safety Components International Inc., an automotive air bag maker and supplier of ordnance and other related defense products, reported net income of $853,000, or 17 cents a share, for its first fiscal quarter, down from $1 million, or 24 cents a share, recorded a year ago. Sales for the quarter ended June 30 declined 32% to $16.2 million from $23.7 million.
