Health Reform

Share

* The health reform legislation passed by Congress (Aug. 3) is being hailed as an instrumental measure in providing security for Americans by permitting employees to carry health insurance from job to job. Unfortunately, the legislation fails to address the more urgent crisis in health care.

Over 40 million people in this country are currently without health insurance. At the same time the national expenditures on health care are expected to reach $1.5 trillion by the year 2000. Even though the Kennedy/Kassebaum bill would implement some positive changes, its impact will be relatively light.

The bill may benefit 25 million Americans that presently enjoy health insurance. We must now demand that future efforts recognize the needs of other Americans.
