Moorpark Council Rejects Gas Station, Store

After a split vote on the project two months ago, the City Council has unanimously rejected a proposed gas station and convenience store at Los Angeles Avenue and Condor Drive.

The last hearing on the project ended in a stalemate. Mayor Paul Lawrason and Bernardo Perez voted in favor of the station, Eloise Brown and Pat Hunter opposed it and John Wozniak was absent.

On Wednesday, Lawrason and Perez changed their stance. Both cited concerns that the station, located next to on- and offramps for the Simi Valley Freeway, could snarl rush-hour traffic.

“I just became convinced that the traffic impact was insupportable,” Perez said.

The Planning Commission had approved plans for the station in May. But several neighboring companies--including Kavlico Corp. and Teledyne Laars--appealed the decision to the council.
