A train carrying commuters home at rush hour slammed into an empty train near London on Thursday, killing at least one passenger and trapping others in the wreckage.

Hertfordshire police said one woman died in the accident but could not confirm an ambulance service report of two dead.

Police said there were about 100 “walking wounded,” with still more people trapped in the crumpled trains, which collided about 20 miles northwest of central London.
