William “Scotty” Brack has a problem of “lobal” proportions.

Brack, a Scotland native who has been a U.S. resident for about 25 years, recently received a letter from the Immigration and Naturalization Service demanding that he submit a new photograph for his green card that shows his ears. His ears apparently lie too close against his head.

The truck driver fears the government will have him deported.

“I work hard and don’t leech off the system. . . . And now they want to deport me because of my ears,” he said. “I’m no Bing Crosby, you know.”

Alan Puckett, INS acting regional director, said Brack is in no real danger of being deported. He said the photograph had to be retaken for security regulations: No two people’s ears are the same.
