Volcano Erupts; 2 Climbers Dead

A volcano on central Negros island spewed a column of ash nearly 5,000 feet into the sky, killing a Belgian and a Filipino who were climbing near the edge of the crater and injuring several other people. The bodies of the two climbers were brought down from Canlaon Volcano, said Mayor Juancho Aguirre of the nearby town of La Carlota. Nine climbers were rescued, and seven others were injured but safe and would be brought down today, he said.
