She Can’t Steer Clear of Remos
ANNIE POTTS, who will star in the upcoming ABC drama series “Dangerous Minds,” and her husband, JAMES HAYMAN, who will direct the series, have purchased a Tudor-style home in Los Feliz for about $1.4 million and put their Glendale home on the market at $995,000, sources say.
Potts will play inner-city teacher and ex-U.S. Marine LouAnne Johnson in her fall series, based on the 1995 film starring Michelle Pfeiffer. Potts, 43, replaced Susan Dey as the female lead in the CBS sitcom “Love & War” (1993), and she played witty interior decorator Mary Jo Shively on the CBS sitcom “Designing Women” (1986-’93). She appeared as the daffy secretary in “Ghostbusters” (1984) and, more recently, was the voice of Bo Peep in “Toy Story” (1995).
Hayman, also in his early 40s, directed episodes of both “Northern Exposure” and “Harts of the West.”
“We are doing a rather extensive renovation of our new home, which hasn’t been touched since 1924,” Potts said from her Glendale residence, where she and her family will continue to live until refurbishing is completed at the Los Feliz house. “We’re trying to do in six months what it took me seven years to do here.”
Built in 1938, their Glendale home, which has four bedrooms and a maid’s quarters, has been totally renovated. “I lovingly restored it,” she said, “and it’s on a hill with a gorgeous view of Glendale and downtown L.A.” The house also has a pool and a darkroom (Hayman started out as a still photographer).
The Glendale home is a bit more than 5,000 square feet, including the guest house and office. They wanted a bigger house because their family grew last December with the birth of a third son. Her oldest is 15.
“We just ran out of room here,” she said. “That third baby threw things out of whack. I hate to leave, because I love this house, but our new place is quite a bit bigger.”
Their new home does need some reconfiguring, however. Built for two sisters, the Los Feliz house has two kitchens, two dining rooms and two master bedrooms. “It’s a gas,” she said, chuckling, “but we don’t need two kitchens, so we’re doing away with one of them, and we’ll turn one of the dining rooms into a screening room.” She hopes to be in the house by Thanksgiving.
Lynne Beavers, an independent Los Feliz Realtor, has the Glendale listing and handled the Los Feliz purchase.

State Sen. TOM HAYDEN (D-Santa Monica) and his wife, actress-singer BARBARA WILLIAMS, have bought a Brentwood home for about $550,000, sources say. The couple have been living in Santa Monica.
Hayden, a possible challenger to L.A. Mayor Richard Riordan’s reelection bid next April, hasn’t yet made up his mind to enter the race, his spokeswoman has said.
Hayden, 56, also has indicated through his spokeswoman that he wanted to move into the boundaries of the city of Los Angeles whether he runs for mayor or not.
The couple’s new home has three bedrooms in 2,400 square feet and what has been described as “dramatic canyon and ocean views.” The house was built in the ‘60s and was sold through probate, sources say.
The one-bedroom 50-year-old Santa Monica home where Hayden and his wife have been living is expected to be used as a rental.

Academy Award-winning actress LORETTA YOUNG has sold her Beverly Hills home of 30 years for just under its last listing price of $895,000, sources say.
Young, who appeared regularly on TV during the 1950s and 1960s, won three Emmy awards. She won her Oscar for “The Farmer’s Daughter” (1947).
Young, 83, and her husband, Oscar-winning costume designer Jean Louis, 88, live in Palm Springs. She listed the Beverly Hills home last summer at about $1 million.
Built in 1962, the French Regency-style house has three bedrooms in about 3,500 square feet. It was purchased by Dr. David Kattan, a cardiologist, who was represented by his father, Abe Kattan, an independent Beverly Hills Realtor.
Nelda Linsk of Coldwell Banker Eadie Adams Realty in Palm Springs shared the listing with Dennis Fernow of the Prudential-Jon Douglas of Beverly Hills.

The former Holmby Hills home of singer NEIL DIAMOND, who gave up his interest in it last fall as part of his $150-million divorce settlement, has been sold to a film director-producer for about $5 million, sources say.
The 9,000-square-foot house on 1.5 acres had been on the market at just under $6 million. The eight-bedroom house was built in 1931.
Diamond, 55, was sued for divorce by his second wife, Marcia, after 25 years of marriage and two children, now 16 and 24. He has released more than 35 albums and starred in the 1980 movie “The Jazz Singer.”

KRISTIAN ALFONSO, best known for her longtime role as Hope Brady on the NBC soap “Days of Our Lives,” has purchased a Beverly Hills-area home for about $900,000 and listed her Hollywood Hills home at $469,000, sources say.
Alfonso, 28, co-starred in the 1994 USA movie “Blindfold” and appeared in a recurring role as Lauren Etheridge on “Melrose Place.”
She is in the Cinemax film “In the Kingdom of the Blind,” due out this month, and is part of the ensemble cast in the film “Partners,” scheduled to start shooting this fall.
The house she bought is a gated Mediterranean with five bedrooms in 5,000 square feet. Her Hollywood Hills home has city-to-ocean views and two bedrooms in 1,700 square feet.
Jeff Hall of John Aaroe & Associates, Pacific Design Center, has the listing and represented Alfonso in buying her new home, listed with Lynn Bernstein, the same office.
