Catholic March Meets No Resistance

Thousands of Roman Catholics marched into the center of Belfast, the capital, and met no resistance from Protestants--bringing a surprisingly orderly weekend to a close in the tense British province. Police in riot gear with armored vehicles were positioned along the parade route to keep apart the marchers and Protestants supporting British rule. The marchers whistled and screamed insults at Protestant demonstrators as they passed by a few hundred yards away.
