Rubbermaid Adding Trash Bag Business: The housewares maker will begin selling bags to line the garbage cans it already produces. The bags will be sold, beginning in October, in color-coded packages matching codes on Rubbermaid’s 13-gallon kitchen wastebasket and 32-, 39- and 45-gallon trash containers. Wooster, Ohio-based Rubbermaid Inc., which produces most of its own housewares, toys, plastic furniture and health-care products, will delegate the manufacture of its Roughneck trash bags to North American Plastics Corp. of Aurora, Ill. Rubbermaid’s earnings dropped 30% in 1995 before restructuring expenses. The firm announced Dec. 5 that it would trim 9%, or about 1,260 jobs, from its work force.
