Annexed Land Adds 80 Households to City
The city has added about 80 households to its population by annexing a small parcel of county land.
Some residents of the 25-acre tract near Kellogg Drive had requested the change, Mayor John M. Gullixson said. The area already used a number of city services, and its residents had access to Yorba Linda recreation and library facilities.
Residents approached officials a year ago about a possible annexation, citing a desire to become more involved with the city, Gullixson said.
The action was completed at a recent special City Council session.
The city had attempted to annex the land, part of Country Club Estates, several times in the past but had always met opposition from residents. This time, however, fewer than 25% of the area’s registered voters objected, opening the door for the city to act.
“They were always surrounded by us,” Gullixson said. “I think it makes sense they are now part of us.”
The city would consider annexing other scattered parcels of unincorporated county land adjacent to Yorba Linda, the mayor said.
“The services for those people come from the city. I just think it is bad government to have these ‘islands.’ ”
