Shape Magazine to Honor Jane Fonda

This evening, Shape magazine will present its first Lifetime Achievement Award in Fitness to actress Jane Fonda. The celebration--also to celebrate Shape’s 15th anniversary--will be held at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, where singer Tom Jones will be causing heart flutters among the fittest.

Barbara Harris, the magazine’s editor in chief, said, “No one is more responsible for legitimizing the fitness movement or bringing it into the lives of the mainstream public than Jane Fonda.”

After winning her second Oscar in the 1978 film “Coming Home,” Fonda, now 58, launched her fitness career with an exercise studio in 1979. After the 1981 publication by Simon & Schuster of “Jane Fonda’s Workout Book” (a bestseller for two years), she turned to producing and starring in her own workout videocassettes.

Fonda and Ted Turner, who were married in 1991, have homes in Georgia and Florida and ranches in Montana and New Mexico, where they raise more than 7,000 bison.
