Nearly 3,000 homes in Simi Valley neighborhoods around the south end of 1st Street were left in the dark Wednesday morning when an underground transformer short-circuited and cut off power.
The outage, caused by a failed connection to a transformer on Highland Road, affected residents on both sides of 1st Street about 5 a.m., according to Tony Wilson, regional manager for Southern California Edison.
Power was restored within 15 minutes to most customers after eight attempts, which flashed lights and turned appliances on and off. However, about 30 customers were without electricity until 11:30 a.m.
