Police Clash With Student Protesters

Helicopters poured tear gas on demonstrators and 6,000 police raided the university campus on the fourth day of clashes with students calling for reunification with Communist North Korea. The clashes broke out as South Korean President Kim Young Sam renewed his offer of massive economic aid to North Korea if the impoverished country agrees to peace talks. More than 500 students and police have been injured, and about 600 students have been detained.
