From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Sizzling pieces of a Delta Airlines 727 engine bounced off rooftops in Queens, N.Y., after an engine failure forced the pilot to make an emergency landing at Kennedy International Airport, the airline acknowledged. The parts were from Flight 801, which took off from La Guardia Airport bound for Tampa, Fla., Wednesday night with 132 passengers aboard, said Delta spokesman Bill Berry. The plane landed safely at nearby Kennedy, and no one in the plane or on the ground was injured. Berry initially denied the pieces came from the jet.
