ValuJet Flies for First Time in 2 Months: The beleaguered airline was back in the skies as federal aviation inspectors rode the first of several flights to see how the crew responded to emergencies, the company said. The round-trip flight between Atlanta and Washington was the first time a ValuJet Airlines plane had flown since the company voluntarily halted operations June 18. Spokesman Greg Kenyon said the Atlanta-based company has set an internal target date of Aug. 23 for resuming operations, with seven aircraft serving five cities. The date was subject to Federal Aviation Administration approval. ValuJet was under intense FAA scrutiny after the May 11 crash of Flight 592 in the Florida Everglades that killed all 110 people on board. Friday’s flight was the first of several for FAA inspectors as part of ValuJet’s recertification.
