Debate Over Sale of Animals

Re “Cultures Clash Over Sale of Live Animals for Food,” Aug. 12:

Occidental or Oriental, African or South American, I have never heard of a good chef that is not an advocate of the freshest ingredients, whether they be animal or vegetable. The inference that it is some “white” cultural conspiracy to attack Asian culture is a nauseating example of the multicultural polemics that are dividing this county.

An advocacy for sanitary conditions and humane treatment of animals has a higher standard in this country than one finds in most of Asia. All people that have come to this country, including white Europeans, have had to make some changes to their cultural identity. As we do not have in this country a privileged class of American royalty, we do not have a privileged group of immigrants.
