Ex-Police Officer Files Claim Against City
A fired Simi Valley police officer who is running for the City Council filed a claim against the city Monday seeking more than $560,000 in lost earnings and damages.
David J. Weiner, a nine-year Simi Valley Police Department veteran who was fired early this year, contended that he was wrongly targeted by police and city officials.
He was fired after an internal police investigation. Citing confidentiality, police officials have declined to discuss details of the dismissal.
As a result of losing his job, however, Weiner now suffers from severe headaches, sleeplessness, mental anguish, depression and numerous other maladies, he wrote in a claim filed Monday.
Weiner also lost more than $460,000 in future earnings and is asking for $100,000 in damages.
Weiner is among six candidates contesting two open seats on the City Council.
City officials declined to discuss the claim filed Monday.
