The Norwich Navigators will have a Cy Young Award winner on their pitching staff, at least for one night.

David Cone of the New York Yankees will make the three-hour drive to Norwich, Conn., tonight to pitch for the Yankees’ Eastern League affiliate in a game against the Binghamton Mets.

Cone has been sidelined since early May when he had an aneurysm removed from his right arm.

“I’m a little nervous,” Cone said. “You always wonder if you’re ready. Nobody likes to be embarrassed.”

Cone threw 55 pitches in a three-inning simulated game last Friday at Yankee Stadium, his most rigorous workout to date. He will throw 60 pitches in Norwich. If all goes well, he may make two more starts there before making a decision on a possible return date to the Yankees.

Build a gleaming new ballpark in downtown Philadelphia, and they will come.

That’s the idea behind a developer’s plan to build a 50,000-seat baseball stadium, along with a retail and entertainment center, next to the University of Pennsylvania and the Schuylkill River.

“This stadium makes Philadelphia a destination. It creates jobs. It creates opportunities. It puts lights on at night,” developer Daniel J. Keating III said as he unveiled plans for what he called a $500-million urban redevelopment initiative.

The stadium would cost $200 million, Keating said.
