News that the Orange County Tourism Council is trying to craft a catchy slogan to market the area to visitors inspired would-be ad executives to write in with their own ideas.

Roberta Strotkamp of Laguna Beach suggests “What fun in the sun at O.C.” Monica Tully of Pacific Palisades has heard the buzz and came up with: “Be a honey, keep Orange blossoming.” Cecil Miller of Palos Verdes likes the distinctive heart symbol in “I (Heart) New York” so much that he wants to create a similar sun icon for Orange County. Marion Powell of Brea is pushing for “Happyland” on the grounds that it’s an easy phrase to rhyme and plays a bit off Disneyland, the county’s main tourist draw.

Then there is Susan Costanzo. The Corona del Mar denizen came up with no fewer than seven slogans and probably would have tossed off a couple more if she hadn’t run out of stationery.

Among Costanzo’s inspirations: “Sea us to believe us . . . Orange County,” “The pick of the cities . . . Orange County” and “A perpetual vacation . . . Orange County.”
