From Times Staff and Wire Reports

An Army soldier has been charged with espionage for allegedly hacking into military computer systems and giving national defense secrets to a friend from China. Pfc. Eric Jenott has been jailed since June 26, the Fayetteville Observer-Times reported. He could face life in prison if convicted. Jenott’s family maintains that he was just trying to point out a weakness in security and that he showed his superiors what he was doing. He was charged with espionage, damaging military property, larceny and breaking into government computer systems, according to Army documents obtained by the newspaper.
