Obituaries : Ada Trunnell; Ventura Homemaker
Ada Trunnell of Ventura, a homemaker who spent World War II doing postal work for the Army, died Thursday in Ventura following a brief illness. She was 92.
Trunnell was born Dec. 3, 1903, in Green River, Wyo., where she lived until coming to Ventura County 28 years ago.
She was a strong and caring woman, families members said, and was known to many as “Gramma Ada.”
“She was a grandmother to a lot of people,” said her grandson, Matthew Furey of Ventura. “Her door was always open.”
A patriotic woman who was more than willing to serve her country, Furey said, “She joined the Army at 41 because she thought they needed her help. She did postal service in World War II.”
Trunnell was preceded in death by her only daughter, Jean Furey, in 1984.
She is survived by granddaughter Casey Reason of Ventura; grandsons Bill Furey of Rutherford, N.J., and Matthew Furey of Ventura; and two great-granddaughters.
Friends are invited to Trunnell’s house for a time of remembrance and celebration at 1 p.m. Sept. 1. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
