SHADOW BOXING: You can hear another “new” Beatles track without even turning on the radio. A snippet of a 1994 session in which surviving Mop Tops McCartney, Harrison and Starr recorded “Cry for a Shadow”--a Harrison-John Lennon instrumental that was first recorded as part of the band’s first session in Hamburg, Germany in 1961 (with Pete Best on drums)--is on the current phone machine message at the Atlanta office of Beatlefan magazine.

“This was leaked by an Apple-related source,” says Beatlefan editor King. “It was recorded during jam sessions at either Harrison’s or McCartney’s studios, which were videotaped for the ‘Anthology’ video documentary. I suspect this copy came from that [tape].”

The track, however, will not be on the “Anthology 3” album release. Though it had originally been listed as part of that collection, it has reportedly been dropped. Sources at Capitol Records speculate that it might eventually appear among bonus tracks on a box set of all three “Anthology” sets.
