Sherman E. Robbins of Santa Paula, a former furniture store owner, died Thursday in Santa Paula after a brief illness. He was 84.

When he wasn’t selling furniture, Robbins was fishing, his wife said. The couple had been married nine years and Oct. 24 would have been their 10-year anniversary. But they were friends for much longer.

“We’ve known each other since I was 14,” said Bobbie Robbins, 78. “I married his best boyfriend the first time. Sherman married a girl I loved very much. They would come to see us all the time.

“He lost his wife [Shirley Robbins], and then I lost my husband. Then after 26 years of being alone I married Sherman,” Bobbie Robbins said.

Besides his wife, Robbins is survived by two sons, Beauford Robbins of Aguila, Ariz., and Edward Robbins of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Donna Padgett of Santa Paula; two brothers, Roy Robbins of Oklahoma City and Virgil Shannon of Seminole, Okla.; two sisters, Vera Fieldpott of Ada, Okla., and Violet Moose of Seminole, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Pierce Brothers Stetler Chapel in Santa Paula, with Pastor Paul Wells officiating. Burial will follow in the Santa Paula Cemetery.

Friends may call at the mortuary chapel Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Santa Clara Valley Hospice, Santa Paula.
