Parking Ban Aims at Adult Bookstore

Hoping to discourage patrons of an adult bookstore from loitering on neighborhood streets, the City Council has voted to post no-parking signs in the nearby residential area.
Traffic engineer George Allen said the signs will be posted on both sides of Partridge Street for the first 200 feet south of Garden Grove Boulevard, a distance long enough for eight to 10 cars to park. The signs establish a tow-away zone from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Police have used no-parking signs effectively on other streets near Garden Grove Boulevard, officials said, to discourage prostitution and drug activity on residential streets between Beach Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue.
Allen said the Partridge Street restrictions will mark the first time such zones have been used on the east end of town. Partridge Street is between Harbor Boulevard and Haster Street.
The action was initiated by the area’s neighborhood police team after patrols noticed bookstore patrons parking on Partridge Street.
The new ordinance is not likely to affect parking for tenants of nearby apartments, Allen said.
