Labor Day weekend will feature hot summer weather--highs hovering around 100 in the valleys, low morning clouds at the beaches dissolving into sunny days and sizzling temperatures in the deserts with highs up to 115 degrees.

Today will be the hottest day of the holiday weekend, about 10 degrees above normal, but not quite in the record-breaking range, said Curtis Brack, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts for The Times.

The high today at the Los Angeles Civic Center is expected to be 94, cooling to only 67 degrees at night. Beach temperatures today are expected to range from the mid-70s to low 80s, with some early morning fog and low clouds. The valleys will range from the high 90s to 108 in the hottest areas.

“Temperatures will cool slightly during the remainder of the weekend, but it will still be above normal for this time of year with warm, balmy nights,” Brack said. “Overall, it will be the kind of Labor Day weekend people have come to expect in Southern California: sunny, hot summer weather.”

The one area travelers might avoid is the deserts, which will be blistering. Temperatures in Palm Springs are expected to hit between 105 and 110 during the weekend, and the deserts by the Arizona border will be as hot as 115 degrees.
