Toledo Gets Tough Over Passing Attack

Share

Disgusted with the passing game that is the cornerstone of the new UCLA offense, Coach Bob Toledo turned up the volume Thursday.

“Run that play again,” was the yell after Rodney Lee had dropped a pass from Cade McNown. “Catch it this time.”

“Keep running until I tell you to stop,” Toledo yelled at Eric Scott when he dropped a ball.

“We can’t accept mediocrity,” Toledo said. “We have to start getting better now. We can’t be dropping balls. I’m not going to accept anybody not giving their best effort and concentrating.”

Toledo has expressed concern over the development of the passing game, emphasizing the problems in timing created by the absence of flanker Derek Ayers because of a lingering ankle injury and apparent difficulty in catching the ball.

He sent Ayers a message with the announcement of the two-deep chart, listing him as the second-string flanker, behind Lee.

Another two-deep chart move showed that Jeff Ruckman, listed as the third-string middle linebacker before two-a-days began, had taken the starting nose guard job from Weldon Forde. And Anthony Cobbs, once a receiver, then a cornerback, is listed as the starting roverback, with Wasswa Serwanga, a transfer from Pacific, which dropped football, as his primary backup.
