The Danish State Railways is putting its foot down.

It seems fashion-conscious travelers have been grumbling that too many railroad conductors are wearing white sports socks that don’t match their dark blue uniforms.

So the railroad has banned white socks and started to distribute dark ones to all its 20,000 employees, the Politiken newspaper said Friday.

“It’s important that the uniforms look pleasant and harmonious,” railroad official Birte Brandt said.

“Now we’re giving out dark socks, so there can be no more excuses for wearing white ones.”

Company bosses are expected to report workers who show up in white socks, Politiken said. It did not say what would happen to the workers who do.
