Kevorkian at Another Suicide, His Lawyer Says
Dr. Jack Kevorkian helped a Tennessee man with pancreatic cancer commit suicide Monday night, his lawyer said.
Jack Leatherman, a 73-year-old father of three from Knoxville, was brought to William Beaumont Hospital, attorney Geoffrey Fieger said. He confirmed that Kevorkian attended the death but wouldn’t give any more details, saying, “I’m trying to go back to sleep.”
Kevorkian drove to the emergency entrance of the hospital after 8 p.m., and hospital workers carried Leatherman’s body in on a stretcher.
Kevorkian then handed a doctor a 3-by-5 card, hospital spokeswoman Colette Stimmell told the Oakland Press.
“On it was the patient’s name, his age, his city of residence, insurance information, the diagnosis and the name and phone number of the patient’s son,” Stimmell said.
In August, Kevorkian helped four people commit suicide over eight days. In all, he has acknowledged helping 39 people die since 1990.
