New Hospital Owners Keep Trauma Care
The recently purchased Providence Holy Cross Medical Center will continue to offer trauma care and paramedic services as part of an agreement approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
The board on Tuesday unanimously approved a plan to transfer the county’s contract with the previous owners of the hospital to its current owners, the nonprofit Sisters of Providence Health System, based in Seattle.
The Sisters of Providence also own Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.
The new agreement means there will be no interruption in providing trauma care at the hospital, county officials said.
Holy Cross, a key link in the county’s trauma-care network, is one of two hospitals in the San Fernando Valley serving as the first line of defense in treating injuries ranging from gunshot wounds to car accidents in its emergency room.
Because hospitals that offer trauma and emergency care have nontransferable contracts with the county’s Department of Health Services, the contract had to be reaffirmed with the new owners.
There were no changes in the contract, which ends next June, county officials said.
