SELICHOT SERVICES: In preparation for the High Holy Days, many synagogues will feature special Selichot services. FLYING START: St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Woodland Hills will kick off its Sunday school activities, dubbed “Off to a Flying Start,” with booths, games, lunch and a visit to the Santa Monica Airport Museum of Flying on Sunday. The Rev. Synde Manion said her sermon topic will be “Jesus as Our Co-Pilot” at the 8:30 a.m. traditional service and the 10:45 a.m. contemporary service. The later service will include a “children’s chat time” featuring an outfitted pilot. At noon, the festivities will begin, featuring a free lunch and an enclosed balloon jump for children. A church member is covering the cost of admission to the museum for those going from St. Luke’s, Manion said. Participants, who must provide their own transportation, will depart the church at 1:45 p.m. The church, which attracts an average of 175 people each Sunday, is at 5312 Commercio Way. HADASSAH: A day of family fun is planned Sunday as hundreds of Jewish women and their families launch the new Hadassah Southern California. The group recently reorganized and united more than 22,000 members of Hadassah. The event is planned for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Meadow Oaks School, 23456 Mulholland Highway, Calabasas. It will include music, games, rides, Israeli dancing, Judaic crafts and food. Admission at the door is $15 for adults and $10 for children. (310) 276-0036.
