Enver Pasha
Steven Merritt Miner’s “Turkey’s Ambitions Raise Stakes for Russians in Chechnya”(Opinion, Aug. 18) was a refreshing departure from the usual denial surrounding that country’s Pan-Turanian ambitions. Sadly, Miner neglects to make the implicit connections among Pan-Turanianism, Turkey’s culpability for the Armenian genocide, and the recognition of Enver Pasha as a “hero” by Turkey. Enver was one of the three key government leaders responsible for the Armenian genocide.
By reburying Enver’s remains in their country, Turkey’s leaders are implicitly admitting their responsibility to the Armenian nation for the genocide.
