Company Accused of Illegally Hauling Acid

Share

A Portland, Ore., company was accused Monday of allegedly transporting hydrochloric acid and corrosive liquids in unsecured containers along Sun Valley streets, said Los Angeles City Atty. Jim Hahn.

Great Western Chemical Corp. is charged with violating 10 state laws governing hazardous materials. Driver Juan Medina Lopez, 41, of Sun Valley, also faces related charges.

An arraignment is set for Sept. 26 in Los Angeles Municipal Court.

The charges resulted from two incidents earlier this year when Great Western Chemical trucks were stopped by police, Hahn said. Both times, officers said drums carried in the trucks were improperly labeled and paperwork did not contain required descriptions of the cargo.

The stops were made on Sheldon Street near San Fernando Road and on Strathern Street near Vantage Avenue, Hahn said.
