Longtime USC watchers are reminded this week of John Robinson’s 1976 debut as a head coach.
The Trojans, with Robinson having just replaced John McKay, lost to Missouri, 46-25. Then USC beat Oregon, 53-0, and went on to win 10 more, including a 17-13 victory over Michigan in the Rose Bowl. That team finished 11-1.
USC opened this season with a 24-7 loss to Penn State but bounced back Saturday for a 55-3 win over Illinois.
