First Lady’s Route Kept Under Wraps

Ventura County residents who would like to catch a glimpse of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s motorcade, which will pass through the area twice today, may be out of luck.

White House officials and Secret Service agents in Washington said that because of security reasons they would not divulge the highway route the first lady will take, nor the times she will pass through this area on her way to and from a series of campaign events in Santa Barbara.

She will appear at an 11 a.m. round-table discussion at Santa Barbara City College’s Garvin Theatre and at a Clinton/Gore ’96 campaign rally scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on the campus.

Later in the afternoon, she is expected to meet with Walter Capps (D-Santa Barbara) who is again challenging Rep. Andrea Seastrand (R-Shell Beach) for a seat in Congress. And then Clinton was scheduled to meet with a democratic Women’s Political Committee.

White House officials could only confirm that the first lady would pass through Ventura County at some time in the morning on her way to Santa Barbara from Los Angeles, where she campaigned for the president Wednesday.

Officials also said Hillary Clinton would return to Los Angeles via motorcade later in the day to accompany her husband to an evening fund-raiser in the city after his arrival today in Southern California.
