Chamber Drops Tie to Boland Bill Group

Following the recent defeat of the state Assembly bill designed to aid the San Fernando Valley in an effort to secede from the city of Los Angeles, the Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce has withdrawn its support of Valley VOTE, an organization created to back the bill.

Chamber President Carrie Konjoyan said the board of directors took the action after the legislation--called the “Boland bill” after its sponsor, Assemblywoman Paula Boland (R-Granada Hills)--was narrowly defeated, “negating the need for such an organization.”

Chamber officials asserted their support for the Boland bill and said they plan to take a stand on secession in the likely event the issue resurfaces. The Valley Industry and Commerce Assn. has also withdrawn its support for Valley VOTE.
