FAA Drops Cruise Baggage Inspections

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The Federal Aviation Administration has dropped a new security order that required airlines to search the bags of passengers arriving from cruise ships. The order was dropped after it caused long lines and big delays at Miami International Airport. It required airlines to inspect any baggage that had been out of owners’ sight. But because airline passengers from cruise ships leave their luggage outside their cabins the night before leaving the ship and don’t see it again until they claim it ashore, the airlines had to inspect the bags.
