Shackled Prisoners

What’s wrong with these pictures? Susan McDougal, charged with contempt of court, shackled at her ankles and wrists, being escorted to jail for what must certainly be considered a minor white-collar crime (Sept. 10). Conversely, a convicted murderer is allowed to escape his two police escorts at LAX due to either their inattention or ineptness (Sept. 11).

My, how priorities change in a politically charged presidential election.

* Bless America’s media! The pictures of McDougal being carted off to jail in arm and leg chains as though she were a dangerous, vicious, homicidal maniac and recent escapee from a maximum security federal prison must delight, beyond measure, China and other nations that are constant targets of our hypocritical denunciations of their treatment of people. Those pictures are a frighteningly accurate indictment of our own holier-than-thou justice system.

Cheers for McDougal and the media!
