Insurance Plan Designed for Seasonal Farm Workers

Share

Barkley Insurance Agents & Brokers and The Insurance Group in Oxnard have developed a health insurance product designed for farmers who employ seasonal workers.

The Clinicas Plan, underwritten by the Western Growers Assurance Trust, offers workers’ compensation, group medical, property/casualty and farm packages.

“With this unique plan, growers can cost-effectively provide comprehensive health care for their workers by partnering with MediCal,” said principal agent Al Barkley. “The Clinicas Plan . . . meets the health needs of seasonal employees and it meets the budget constraints faced by growers.”

Clinicas del Camino Real, with six locations in Ventura County, is the plan’s exclusive provider. The clinics feature bilingual physicians and medical staffs and provide basic medical care such as outpatient diagnostics, in-house prescriptions, physician treatments and health education.

When workers need major medical care, an on-site social worker is available to qualify them for additional government-funded programs.

Barkley said the plan would cost a farming operation between $55 and $70 per family per month.
