Notes on a Scorecard of an Extraordinary Life, Career. . . .

Share

While playing football at USC from 1982-86, it was a sign of acceptance as an L.A. athlete to be mentioned in Allan’s column in the Herald Examiner.

What made Allan’s scorecard so popular with the players was that he would often give notice to otherwise overlooked athletes. I can remember the first time I was mentioned. It was only after he pointed out that I was ranked No. 3 nationally in kickoff returns that most people began to notice how I was playing.

I didn’t keep many clippings in a scrapbook of my football career, but that was one that I did.
