Adult and Extension Courses Available

Enrollment is currently open for a Los Angeles Mission College program that enables working adults to earn their associate of arts degree or transfer to a university in less time than is usually required, college officials announced.

Applications for admission to the Project for Adult College Education, or PACE, will be available until Oct. 4 through the PACE office, (818) 364-7684, said Gina LaMonica, PACE director.

“This is a program for working people who want to get their degrees at an accelerated pace,” said LaMonica. “It’s more intensive than our regular programs, but there are fewer classes.”

Students enrolled in the nine-week program--half the length of a normal semester--are required to attend two courses one night a week and four eight-hour Saturday programs. The cost of the program is $78 per semester, LaMonica said.

Enrollment is also open in the college’s Community Extension program, which offers more than 150 non-credit workshops and seminars covering a wide range of subjects.

The workshops and seminars offered through the Community Extension program “cover just about any subject you could think of,” said program manager Diane Astadurian.

Subjects include business, computers, Spanish, art, dance, electronics and many others. Most of the courses, which are generally priced between $24 and $70, will be held at Granada Hills High School.
