Chrysler Workers in Canada OK Pact: The firm’s 13,000 union auto workers overwhelmingly ratified a new three-year contract that limits the company’s ability to contract out jobs. Canadian Auto Workers President Buzz Hargrove said 85% of those who voted were in favor of the agreement. Hargrove said the contract will create 300 jobs as well as increase wages and protect employment levels. Hargrove has yet to say whether General Motors or Ford Canada will be the union’s next negotiating target. The deal with Chrysler Canada Ltd. provides wage increases and projected cost-of-living allowances totaling 10.2% over three years. Chrysler has also agreed to replace any job it contracts out with a similar job at one of its plants. It has also promised not to sell or close any plants over the life of the new contract.
